Do you set personal goals for yourself?

⭐ Personal Goals, Detours & a Brain with 47 Tabs Open!

The Christy Chronicles: Goals, Gold Stars & Good Grief, Charlie Brown! 😂

Do I set personal goals for myself?

Well, HEAVENS TO BETSY ROSS! Of course, I do! 😂

The better question is, do I actually accomplish all those goals?

Wellllll… sometimes YES, sometimes NO, and sometimes I can’t even remember what the dang goal was in the first place! 🤦‍♀️🤣

Welcome to the wonderful, chaotic world of Christy’s brain, where there are approximately 47 tabs open, 12 unfinished projects, 6 brilliant ideas, 3 new hobbies I want to learn, and one little voice saying, “Now, what in the Sam Hill was I doing?” 😂

I’m a goal setter. Always have been. I’m also one of those nerdy people who LOVES learning new things. I want to know how things work, why they work, how to do them myself, and whether I can figure out a better way to do them!

And preferably, I wanted to know all of this YESTERDAY!

Patience? Never heard of her. 🤣

But here’s something I’ve learned over the years. Not every goal is meant to be accomplished.

Sometimes, you set a goal, work toward it, and somewhere along the way, life decides to throw a giant orange DETOUR sign right smack in the middle of your beautifully organized plans!

Well, isn’t that just PEACHY?! 🍑

Sometimes, you have to reassess, reevaluate, redirect, recalculate, and possibly make a U-turn before you end up somewhere you never intended to go!

It’s like my GPS saying, “Recalculating… recalculating… recalculating…”

GOOD GRIEF, CHARLIE BROWN! Just tell me where I’m supposed to go already! 😂

And sometimes, that goal you thought you wanted so badly turns out to be something you didn’t need at all.

Maybe the timing wasn’t right. Maybe you needed to grow a little more. Maybe another opportunity was waiting around the corner. Or maybe that particular door needed to stay CLOSED, LOCKED, DEADBOLTED, AND BOARDED UP!

And for goodness’ sake, don’t go crawling through the window trying to get back in! 🤣

I’ve learned that changing your goals doesn’t mean you’ve failed. It means you’ve learned something. Sometimes, the smartest thing you can do is change directions instead of continuing down a road that leads absolutely NOWHERE!

And believe me, I’ve taken a few scenic routes in my lifetime that I probably should’ve avoided altogether!

But that’s life!

Now, let’s discuss the OTHER problem with Christy’s personal goals.

MY BRAIN! 🧠😂

I have so many ideas floating around in this head of mine that I’m surprised smoke doesn’t come pouring out of my ears!

I’m constantly thinking of something I want to do, somewhere I want to travel, something new I want to learn, a project I want to start, or another bucket-list adventure I want to check off.

My brain apparently doesn’t believe in taking vacations.

Even when I’M on vacation, my brain is still planning the next vacation! 🤣🍷

And now, at this wonderful stage of life, I’ve developed another exciting little feature.

I FORGET WHAT THE HECK I’M DOING!

I can walk from one room to another with a very specific mission, get there, stand in the middle of the room, look around, and think…

“Why am I here?”

Was I looking for my glasses? My phone? My coffee? Did I come in here to get something? Did I come in here to put something away?

DID I EVEN HAVE A REASON TO COME IN HERE?!

Heavens to Betsy Ross! Somebody send a search party for my train of thought because that sucker has LEFT THE STATION! 🚂🤣

And since Alzheimer’s runs in my family, I occasionally joke that my memory has decided to retire before the rest of me!

At this rate, I may have to start wearing sticky notes on my forehead!

“CHRISTY, REMEMBER WHY YOU WALKED INTO THE KITCHEN!”

Of course, I’d probably forget to read the sticky note! 😂

Thank goodness for the Notes app on my phone! That little electronic lifesaver has become my second brain.

I’ve got notes about goals, ideas, things to buy, places to visit, blog topics, random thoughts, and probably something I typed at 2:00 in the morning that makes absolutely NO SENSE in the daylight!

I’ll look at one and think, “What brilliant idea was I having when I wrote THAT?”

Your guess is as good as mine!

I’m basically a walking, talking, slightly disorganized filing cabinet with a glass of red wine and a whole lot of ambition! 🍷🤣

But here’s the thing…

I’m NEVER going to stop setting goals.

I don’t care how old I get, how many times I have to change directions, or how many ideas I forget between the bedroom and the kitchen.

I want to keep learning. Keep exploring. Keep challenging myself. Keep traveling. Keep growing. Keep checking things off that never-ending bucket list of mine.

Because the day I stop wanting to learn something new or experience something different is the day somebody better check my pulse!

Now, am I going to accomplish every single goal I set?

ABSOLUTELY NOT!

Some goals will be completed. Some will be modified. Some will be postponed. Some will be thrown straight into the garbage disposal, never to be seen again!

And some will probably be sitting in my Notes app for the next 15 years waiting for me to remember why I wrote them down! 😂

But you know what?

If I accomplish TWO goals, I’m calling that a SUCCESSFUL DAY!

Give me a gold star! ⭐️

Pat me on the back!

Call the local newspaper!

Throw some confetti!

Heck, somebody pour me a glass of Cabernet because CHRISTY HAS ACCOMPLISHED SOMETHING! 🍷🎉🤣

And if I only accomplish ONE?

Well, that’s still one more than ZERO!

And if I accomplish absolutely NOTHING?

There’s always tomorrow, assuming I remember what I was supposed to accomplish today!

Moral of the story: Set those goals. Dream those dreams. Change directions when you need to. Don’t be afraid to close doors that no longer lead anywhere worth going. And never think you’re a failure because life took you down a different path.

Sometimes, the detour turns out to be the best adventure of all.

And sometimes, the biggest accomplishment is simply figuring out why you walked into the laundry room in the first place!

Good grief, Charlie Brown! Life is one big work in progress, and apparently, SO AM I! 🤣

Now, excuse me while I go check my Notes app to see what in the world I was supposed to be doing today.

Wait… where’s my phone?!

OH, HEAVENS TO BETSY ROSS! IT’S IN MY HAND! 📱😂

Stay curious. Stay ambitious. Stay a little crazy. And keep collecting those gold stars! ⭐️

YOLO! CARPE DIEM! 🥂

P.S. If anyone finds my train of thought, please return it. No questions asked. Reward: One gold star and possibly a glass of wine! 😂🍷
