What’s the best advice you’d give to someone younger than you?

Dear Younger People… Here’s My Advice. Take It or Leave It. 😂

What’s the best advice I’d give to someone younger than me?

Well… Heavens to Betsy Ross, are we sure I’m the person we want giving life advice?! 😂

Because first of all, advice is basically just an opinion from somebody who has already made enough questionable decisions to have a few stories to tell.

And trust me—I HAVE STORIES. 😂

Everybody is different. Everybody’s life is different. What worked for me might send you straight into a ditch. So take my advice, leave my advice, modify my advice, or throw the whole thing out the window.

But if you ask me, here it is:

YOU ONLY GET ONE LIFE. LIVE THE DANG THING.

Stop waiting.

Stop waiting until you have more money.

Stop waiting until you find the perfect job.

Stop waiting until you find “your person.”

Stop waiting for somebody else to go with you.

And for the love of all things holy, STOP CHASING PEOPLE.

If somebody wants to be in your life, they’ll make an effort to be there. You shouldn’t have to chase a man, a woman, a friend, or anybody else down like you’re competing in an Olympic track event.

You’re young! Go LIVE!

Travel. ✈️
See the world. 🌎
Take the trip.
Go to the beach.
Get on the plane.
Get on the boat.
Eat the pasta.
Drink the wine when you’re old enough. 🍷😂
Make memories with your family.
Laugh until your stomach hurts with your friends.
And start checking off that bucket list while your knees still cooperate.

Because let me tell you something nobody tells you when you’re young:

One day your knees are going to start having opinions. 😂

Learn how to be independent.

Learn how to live alone.

Learn how to sit in a quiet house and actually enjoy your own company.

Learn how to pay your own bills, make your own decisions, take yourself somewhere, fix what you can, figure things out, and build a life that you don’t need someone else to rescue you from.

Because one of the greatest things you can ever learn is:

I can take care of myself.

Financially. Mentally. Emotionally. And every other “-ally” we need to throw in there.

Love yourself enough that another person becomes an addition to your life—not your entire life.

Don’t hand somebody else the steering wheel and then wonder why you’re going somewhere you never wanted to go.

It’s YOUR life. DRIVE.

And while we’re talking about life—QUIT THINKING YOU HAVE TO HAVE YOUR ENTIRE CAREER FIGURED OUT AT 22!

Change jobs!

Change careers!

Go back to school!

Take a class.

Get another degree.

Earn another certification.

Learn something completely random just because it interests you.

Climb the ladder. Jump to another ladder. Build your own ladder if you have to!

Just keep learning and making yourself better.

You are allowed to change your mind.

You are allowed to outgrow a job, a place, a friendship, a dream, or even the version of yourself you thought you were supposed to become.

And somewhere along the way, maybe the right job comes along.

Maybe the right person comes along.

Maybe life takes you somewhere you never planned to go.

LET IT.

You don’t have to have everything figured out.

I certainly don’t.

At this point, I’m just out here living life, checking off bucket-list boxes, planning the next adventure, loving my family and friends, being independent, and seeing what kind of questionable idea sounds fun next. 😂

And if Spirit Water gets involved, apparently we’re buying plane tickets, running with the bulls in Spain, or climbing into a shark cage because apparently NORMAL WAS NEVER PART OF THE PLAN. 🦈😂

So my advice to anyone younger than me is pretty simple:

Build a life you love before you worry about finding someone to love it with you.

Be independent.

Make your own money.

Educate yourself.

Travel.

Love your family.

Keep the good friends close.

Walk away from people who make your life miserable.

Take chances.

Make mistakes.

Laugh at yourself.

Buy the ticket.

Take the trip.

Check the box.

And don’t spend your whole life waiting for “someday.”

Because none of us knows how many somedays we’re going to get.

So get out there and LIVE.

And if the right person eventually shows up and wants to grab a suitcase and come along for the adventure?

Well… they better have a passport and be able to keep up. 😂✈️🌎🦈

Until then?

I’m perfectly capable of carrying my own luggage.

Carpe Diem!

You only get one life.

Make it one heck of a story. ❤️
