Are you a lifelong learner?
Am I a Lifelong Learner? Oh Honey… I’m a Professional Rabbit Hole Diver.
If learning were an Olympic sport, I’d accidentally sign up for seventeen events, buy all the equipment, watch 462 YouTube videos, read six articles, order three books from Amazon, and somehow end up researching Viking burial traditions when I originally wanted to learn how to make homemade sourdough bread.
Welcome to my brain.
I am absolutely a lifelong learner. Actually, I don’t think I have a choice. My brain wakes up every morning and says, “What random thing are we obsessing over today?”
One minute it’s ancient castles.
The next it’s boutique hotels in Greece.
Then somehow I’m comparing wine regions in Italy while simultaneously learning the migration patterns of sea turtles because…well…why not?
My Google search history should probably have its own therapist.
I don’t just like learning. I become completely obsessed with whatever catches my attention. Once that little curiosity switch flips, it’s over. Spirit Water has grabbed the steering wheel, and we’re headed down another rabbit hole at 95 miles an hour with absolutely no exit strategy.
Poor Blaze has watched me pace around the house saying things like…
“Did you know…”
“Wait until you hear THIS!”
“Hold on, let me show you this video!”
He’s probably thinking, “Lady, I just wanted breakfast.”
But here’s the thing. I don’t want to stop learning because learning opens doors I didn’t even know existed.
Every new fact, every new place, every new conversation, and every new person adds another chapter to my life.
My dream isn’t to collect stuff.
It’s to collect experiences.
Now, don’t get me wrong. I still love beautiful shoes, designer jewelry, and a fabulous handbag. I’m not giving those up in the name of personal growth. Let’s not get carried away.
But what I really want is to wander this beautiful world like a professional tourist with a passport that needs extra pages.
I want to stay in charming little boutique hotels where every room tells a story.
I want to eat food I can’t pronounce.
I want to drink incredible wine in tiny villages where the locals laugh at my Southern accent.
I want to watch sunsets from mountaintops, walk barefoot on beaches with sand so white it looks Photoshopped, and stand in places so beautiful that I forget to look at my phone.
And yes, I want a little adrenaline mixed in, too.
I want to climb into a cage and come face-to-face with a great white shark because apparently my brain thinks, “That sounds like a fantastic Tuesday!”
Most people see a great white shark and think, “Swim away!”
I see one and think, “Where do I sign the waiver?”
I also want to run with the bulls in Spain and then immediately question every life decision that led me to sprinting down a cobblestone street beside a 2,000-pound animal with horns.
I’m a runner, so at least I have that going for me.
However, I usually run for exercise, peace, and the occasional glass of wine afterward. I do not typically run because an angry bull is trying to turn me into a decorative hood ornament.
Some people call that a bucket list.
My family calls it a liability.
I can already hear The Rents now.
My mother will say, “Christy, why would you do that?”
My father will probably say, “Just make sure your life insurance is paid up.”
And I’ll be standing there holding a glass of wine saying, “YOLO!”
But that’s the beauty of learning. It isn’t always sitting in a classroom, reading a textbook, or taking notes.
Sometimes learning means stepping completely outside your comfort zone.
Sometimes it means traveling somewhere you’ve never been, trying food you’ve never tasted, listening to stories from people whose lives are completely different from yours, and realizing how much of the world you still haven’t seen.
Sometimes it means getting into a shark cage.
Sometimes it means running from a bull.
And sometimes it means learning that perhaps Spirit Water should not be allowed to make major travel decisions.
I want to experience different cultures, hear new languages, meet incredible people, taste wines from around the world, see breathtaking mountain peaks, and touch the sands of the most beautiful beaches on Earth.
I want to write about it all along the way.
The boutique hotels.
The hidden restaurants.
The delicious meals.
The tiny wineries.
The beaches.
The mountains.
The people.
The sharks.
The bulls.
And, most importantly, all the ridiculous things that will inevitably happen to me while I’m trying to become an elegant, sophisticated world traveler.
Because let’s be honest, I may arrive wearing designer shoes and carrying Louis Vuitton, but within twenty-four hours, I’ll probably be lost in an alley, drinking wine with strangers, petting a random cat, and asking someone who doesn’t speak English where I can find pasta.
That is the kind of education I want.
Life experience.
The world is one giant classroom, and every passport stamp, every scary adventure, every delicious meal, every breathtaking view, and every “What was I thinking?” moment is another lesson.
So yes, I’m a lifelong learner.
Some people collect baseball cards.
Some people collect antiques.
I collect random knowledge, unforgettable memories, passport stamps, and enough crazy adventures to make my parents ask, “What is she doing NOW?”
And honestly?
I wouldn’t have it any other way.
Life is meant to be lived, explored, tasted, experienced, and occasionally survived.
YOLO.
Carpe Diem.
Now, if you’ll excuse me, I somehow ended up researching great white shark migration routes, Spanish bull-running schedules, and overwater bungalows in Bora Bora when all I wanted was a new pasta recipe.
Typical.🦈🍷🐂✈️🛂
