What do you love now, that you hated when you were younger?
Things I Swore I’d NEVER Like… But Here We Are.
✨ Pour a glass, Peeps… here’s today’s file. ✨
If you had told 20-year-old me what I’d love at 54, I would’ve laughed so hard I’d have snorted.
Stay home on a Friday night?
Absolutely not.
Go to bed before 10:00?
Who does that?!
Cook dinner and listen to blaring music instead of going out?
Excuse me while I grab my keys.
Fast forward a few decades…
Now, if someone cancels plans, I’m secretly doing a happy dance in my pajamas in the kitchen!
A pizza, my favorite blanket, my cat, and the remote control? That’s what I call a five-star evening.
Who even am I?
When I was younger, I wanted to be anywhere but home. I was always running around with friends, chasing the next adventure, trying not to miss out on anything.
Now?
Missing out sounds absolutely glorious.
And here’s the biggest plot twist…
I actually enjoy hanging out with my family.
I know. I shocked myself too.
When I was younger, I was embarrassed by my parents. You know… because parents breathe too loudly in public and somehow ruin your social life just by existing.
Now the embarrassment is completely different.
These days I’m not embarrassed of them…
I’m embarrassed for them.
My mom has absolutely no filter.
None.
Zero.
The woman will say whatever pops into her head, regardless of who’s standing nearby.
Meanwhile, my dad fires back with the most sarcastic one-liners you’ve ever heard.
So there I am…
Sitting between them at restaurants, in the car, on a plane, on vacation…
Playing referee.
“Okay, you two… hug it out.”
I have somehow become the parent.
How did this happen?
When exactly did the roles reverse?
They’re over there acting like middle school siblings, and I’m the responsible adult reminding everyone to use their indoor voices.
Life is weird.
And it’s hilarious.
It’s not just family.
My taste in everything has changed.
Foods I wouldn’t touch? Love them.
Movies I thought were boring? They’re my favorites now.
Music? I finally understand why my parents listened to some of it.
Travel? Give me beautiful scenery, great food, and somewhere peaceful instead of trying to cram seventeen attractions into one day.
Going to bed early?
Don’t threaten me with a good time.
I used to think staying home was punishment.
Now it’s self-care.
Funny how growing older doesn’t just change your age…
It changes your perspective.
You stop worrying so much about impressing people.
You realize peace is more valuable than popularity.
You’d rather have a handful of genuine people than a crowd of acquaintances.
You learn from your mistakes.
You grow from them.
You laugh at things that used to make you cry.
And you finally realize life isn’t about keeping up with everyone else—it’s about enjoying the season you’re in.
Getting older isn’t the punishment people make it out to be.
Honestly?
It’s kind of awesome.
Sure, our knees pop, we forget why we walked into a room, and we get excited when there’s a new kitchen gadget.
But we’ve earned every laugh line and every life lesson.
So embrace the changes.
Order the pizza.
Go to bed early.
Travel when you can.
Laugh with your family—even if they’re acting like toddlers.
Love a little harder.
Stress a little less.
And squeeze every drop of joy out of this crazy life.
Because the older I get…
The better life gets.
Carpe Diem.
Seize the day.
Just… preferably after my afternoon nap.
✨ Pour a glass, Peeps… and let that truth settle in. ✨
