What’s the one luxury you can’t live without?
One Luxury I Can’t Live Without
When people think of luxury, they usually picture fancy vacations, designer handbags, expensive jewelry, or maybe a sports car parked in the driveway.
Don’t get me wrong—I like all the fancy stuff too. I’ve been fortunate enough to enjoy some of those luxuries, and I certainly wouldn’t turn down a nice vacation or a beautiful handbag. But if you ask me what luxury I truly can’t live without, my answer is much simpler.
My luxury costs a few dollars a day and comes in a coffee mug.
Every morning, before the world starts making demands, before the phone starts ringing, and before someone asks me where they left something that I have absolutely never seen before, I have my coffee.
It’s not just coffee. It’s an event.
I wake up, pour myself a cup, settle into my favorite chair, and am immediately joined by my faithful feline supervisor, Blaze. He takes his morning responsibilities very seriously. While I sip coffee, check emails, and watch the news, Blaze conducts quality control inspections on my lap and ensures I don’t start my day without proper cat approval.
There’s something comforting about the routine. The house is quiet. The coffee is hot. The emails haven’t ruined my mood yet. The news hasn’t completely convinced me the world is ending. For a few precious minutes, everything feels manageable.
Now, if I’m at Condo 310, my morning coffee ritual gets an upgrade. You’ll find me on the balcony with my coffee in one hand, a good book in the other, and my eyes fixed on the waves rolling in. There’s just something magical about the sound of the ocean, the salty breeze, and a hot cup of coffee. It’s the perfect combination of relaxation and escape. Honestly, I can lose track of time out there—and I’m not one bit sorry about it.
I’ve tried skipping coffee before. It wasn’t pretty.
Let’s just say nobody involved enjoyed the experience.
Some people meditate. Some journal. Some greet the sunrise with yoga and positive affirmations. I greet the day by clutching a coffee mug like it’s a life preserver and hoping Blaze doesn’t decide my keyboard is the perfect place for a nap. Or, if I’m lucky enough to be at the beach, I’m greeting the day from a balcony while the waves provide the soundtrack.
Could I survive without coffee? Technically, yes.
Would anyone around me want to witness that? Probably not.
So while coffee may not qualify as a luxury in the traditional sense, it absolutely feels like one to me. It’s my daily treat, my peaceful moment, and my chance to gather my thoughts before the day takes off at full speed.
Sure, I enjoy the finer things in life, but there’s something special about the simple pleasures. A warm cup of coffee, a quiet house, a cat named Blaze, and a few uninterrupted moments to myself each morning. Or a balcony overlooking the water with a good book and the sound of the waves. That’s the kind of luxury money can’t really buy.
And honestly, if sitting in a comfortable chair with a hot cup of coffee, a purring cat, and a little peace and quiet—or sitting on a balcony watching the waves roll in with a book in hand—isn’t luxury, I don’t know what is.
