What jobs have you had?

What Jobs Haven’t I Had?

People often ask me, “So, what do you do?”

My answer usually depends on what day you ask.

At this point, I think the better question is: What jobs haven’t I had?

I’ve never been one of those people who does one thing for 40 years and rides off into the sunset. If something sparks my interest, I’m probably going to learn it, try it, and somehow end up turning it into a job.

Let’s start at the beginning.

I spent 17 years in education as an elementary school teacher and reading coach. I loved helping students learn and watching those lightbulb moments happen. But after nearly two decades, I decided retirement didn’t mean sitting still—it meant finding my next adventure.

Meanwhile, I’ve been working in our family business since I was 15 years old. Yes, while most teenagers were figuring out how to avoid work, I was learning how to run a business. These days, I handle the social media marketing, which is proof that the kid who grew up before Facebook somehow became the family social media expert.

Then came real estate.

Not just regular real estate—because apparently I don’t know how to do anything halfway.

I started working for a luxury real estate auction marketing company that sold multi-million-dollar homes, yachts, orchards, equestrian ranches, and properties that looked like they belonged in magazines. One thing led to another, and I got my Alabama real estate license.

To this day, the auction side of real estate is still my favorite. There’s just something exciting about the fast pace, the competition, and watching buyers fall in love with a property.

But wait…there’s more.

I’ve worked in marketing.

I’ve worked in the nonprofit world.

I’ve spent countless hours volunteering in our community because if there’s a fundraiser, a board, a race, or a cause that needs help, chances are I’ve somehow gotten involved.

I’ve worked in the clothing industry, which should surprise absolutely nobody who knows me.

Let’s be honest.

I LOVE fashion.

Not “Oh, that’s a cute outfit” fashion.

I mean ALL THINGS FASHION.

Clothes. Shoes. Accessories. Trends. If it sparkles, coordinates, or comes in multiple colors, I’m interested.

Then I stepped into resource development with United Way, helping connect people, businesses, and resources to strengthen our community. It was another opportunity to learn, grow, and make an impact.

And now?

Now I’m diving into affiliate marketing because I love the idea of working from anywhere in the world, traveling, creating income streams, and continuing to build a life with flexibility and freedom.

Some people see all these different jobs and think, “Wow, you can’t make up your mind.”

I see it differently.

Every role taught me something valuable.

Teaching taught me patience.

Marketing taught me creativity.

Real estate taught me negotiation.

Auctions taught me excitement.

Nonprofits taught me service.

Fashion taught me confidence.

And every experience taught me that learning never stops.

I’ve never been afraid to try something new. In fact, the older I get, the more I enjoy learning. If a new opportunity comes along and sparks my curiosity, I’m probably going to jump in with both feet.

Will I ever slow down?

Probably not.

There are still too many things I want to learn, too many people I want to help, and too many adventures waiting.

So if you’re wondering what I do for a living, the answer is simple:

A little bit of everything.

And if you’re wondering what jobs I haven’t had…

I’m still working on that list.

At this point, my résumé looks less like a career path and more like a buffet. 😄
