Are you a leader or a follower?

Leader or Follower? Please. Have We Met?

Every now and then, someone asks, “Are you a leader or a follower?”

I try not to laugh too hard before answering.

Of course I’m a leader.

I’m so not a follower because, quite frankly, I do not enjoy being told what to do. Never have. Never will.

I was born in November, and yes, I’m a Scorpio. If you know anything about Scorpios, you already know this means one thing: I have a vision, a plan, and a strong opinion about how everything should be done.

And no, “winging it” is not part of my vocabulary.

I like to lead.
I like to make the plans.
I like to call the shots.
And I like to make sure every single detail goes exactly according to plan.

Because in my mind, I can already see the final result.

I know how the event should look.
I know how the timeline should flow.
I know where the signs should go.
And yes, I probably already designed the backup plan just in case someone forgets the extension cord.

Some may call it perfectionism.

Others may call it “OCD Scorpio Energy.”

I call it excellence.

Then there’s my alter ego: Spirit Water.

Spirit Water is fun, energetic, and maybe just a tiny bit dramatic—but one thing she absolutely has in common with me is this: she does not like being told what to do either.

Together, we are unstoppable.

Now, delegation is not always my strongest skill.

It’s hard to hand over part of a project when you can see the finished product so clearly in your mind. Unless someone shares that same passion for doing things right, down to the smallest detail, it can be a challenge.

But over the years, I’ve found my people.

You know the ones.

The friends who color-code spreadsheets for fun.
The ones who show up early.
The ones who bring extra tape, scissors, and batteries.
The ones who understand that “good enough” is not good enough.

These are my co-leaders.

When we work together, magic happens.

Our events are organized.
They are polished.
They are memorable.
And yes, they are some of the best events in our community.

People notice.

Why?

Because we don’t do mediocre.

We don’t cut corners.

And we definitely don’t “just throw something together.”

We care deeply about what we do, and it shows.

So, am I a leader or a follower?

Leader. Without question.

But the best part is leading alongside other strong, driven, detail-loving people who share the same commitment to excellence.

We don’t follow.

We lead.

And we make it look easy… even though we’ve been planning it for six months.
