What gives you direction in life?

Do I Have Direction in Life… or Am I Just Vibing With a Sailboat? ⛵😂

People love to ask deep questions like, “What gives you direction in life?”

And I always want to respond with complete honesty:

“I’m not entirely sure… but I am moving.” 😂

If I had to describe my life, I’d say I’m basically a ship out in the middle of the ocean—no compass, no map, sails up, hair blowing in the wind like a mermaid on a boat (clearly my spirit creature)—just out here trusting the current like, “Well… this seems right.”

Some people have five-year plans.

I have… snacks, a playlist, a good drink in hand, and a general sense of optimism.

Oh—and let’s be clear—I may not have a checklist for life… but I do have a bucket list. And it’s alive, thriving, and probably getting longer by the day.

And honestly? I’m okay with that.

Because here’s the truth: I like being a little spontaneous. I like not knowing exactly what’s around the corner. Life feels more like an adventure that way instead of a checklist.

Now, do I make good decisions?

Absolutely… well, most of the time. 😂

Do I always know where those decisions are leading?

That’s between me and the ocean currents.

But I will say this—I do have a form of direction. It just doesn’t look like a straight line. It looks more like a squiggly doodle with a few pit stops labeled:

“Fun” “Family” “Food” “Vacation” “Where did this margarita come from?” 🍹

Because if we’re being real, part of my “guiding system” includes a little thing I like to call… Spirit Water.

Now, Spirit Water is not known for structure or long-term planning.

Spirit Water is known for saying things like:

“Let’s go on a trip!” “One more glass won’t hurt!” “This sounds like a GREAT idea right now!”

And you know what? Sometimes she’s not wrong.

Because some of the best memories don’t come from carefully mapped-out plans—they come from those spontaneous, slightly questionable, but absolutely unforgettable moments with the people you love.

Matter of fact, that little sailboat life I’m living? It doesn’t always stay a sailboat…

Sometimes it upgrades itself into full-on cruise mode—family, laughter, food, ocean views, and zero responsibilities except deciding what to eat next and whether or not I need another drink (the answer is usually yes 😂).

At the end of the day, maybe my direction isn’t about having everything perfectly figured out.

Maybe it’s about this:

Doing the right things.

Being with the right people.

Laughing way too much.

And saying “yes” to the moments that turn into stories later.

I’d rather have a direction that’s a little “all over the place” than no direction at all.

Because somehow, no matter how zig-zaggy the path gets, it keeps leading me back to what matters most—family, friends, and making memories I wouldn’t trade for anything.

And if that direction includes travel plans, a packed bag, a bucket list waiting to be checked off, and a beach (or cruise deck) somewhere?

Well then… I’d say I’m headed exactly where I need to go. 🌴✈️🚢

So no, I may not have a perfectly drawn map…

But I’ve got sails up, good company on board, snacks packed, playlist ready, drink in hand, mermaid energy activated, and just enough “Spirit Water” to keep things interesting.

And honestly? That feels like pretty great direction to me. 😂☀️🏖️⛵️🛳️🧜🏿‍♀️
