What is your favorite animal?

My Favorite Animals: Cats and Dogs

People often ask what my favorite animal is, and my answer is simple: both cats and dogs. I love them equally, but for very different reasons. Each has their own personality, lifestyle, and way of loving you—and somehow, both manage to love deeply in their own unique way.

Cats and dogs require different levels of care and attention, yet both are incredibly intuitive. They know when you don’t feel well, when you’re sad, or when you’ve just had a long day. Without saying a word, they’re always there to console you. To me, they aren’t just pets—they’re my kids.

When I get home, they’re standing at the door waiting for me like I’ve been gone a hundred years. Every single time.

My cat, Blaze, is a character all his own. He knows exactly where to stand so the door won’t hit him when I walk in. If I don’t immediately give him attention, he’ll pat my head and meow until I either get up, acknowledge him, or feed him. And if that doesn’t work? He starts knocking things off the tables and kitchen counters—one by one—just to make sure I notice. He’s incredibly needy… and very dramatic.

Blaze is also a talker. I’m pretty sure he doesn’t even know he’s a cat. He was raised by my dog, so that probably explains a lot. He loves food and knows exactly where his cabinet is. No matter where I am in the house, he’ll remind me when it’s time to eat.

One of his favorite things to do is sit at the bathroom window and watch the birds and deer that wander through the yard. I crack the window so he can feel the breeze and smell the outside air, and he’ll sit there quietly, completely content, just taking it all in.

That’s why I can’t choose just one favorite animal. Cats and dogs may be different, but the love they give is constant, unconditional, and deeply comforting—and I wouldn’t trade either of them for the world. 🐾❤️
