Skills I Wish I Had Learned Growing Up
There are quite a few skills I wish I had picked up earlier in life!
First, I’ve always dreamed of learning to fly a plane. Flying feels like one of the most freeing experiences a person could have—soaring above the world, looking down over creation, taking in the beauty of landscapes from a bird’s-eye view. It’s not only exhilarating but also one of the best ways to travel.
Another skill I wish I had taken more seriously is writing. As a young girl, I loved spending time with friends—riding bikes, swimming at the community pool, playing tennis, walking everywhere, hanging out at the mall, catching movies, and of course, talking to the “hot guys.” Growing up in the 70s and 80s was the best! Looking back, I wish I had kept journals of those years. What a treasure those stories and memories would be today.
I did learn piano and trumpet, but I’ve always longed to play the guitar. That one is still on my list. I imagine myself sitting alone with a guitar, strumming and maybe even writing music—it feels like it would be such a meaningful and creative outlet. 🎶
Languages are another area where I wish I had held on tighter. I took two years of French in high school, but if you don’t use it, you lose it. Now, I’d love to dive back into French, learn Spanish too, and eventually travel through Europe for several months, capturing my experiences in writing.
