What’s the Most Fun Way to Exercise? (Hint: It Might Involve Friends, Music, and Questionable “Water” Stations)
Let’s be honest—exercise can sometimes feel like punishment. Alarm clocks going off before sunrise, sore muscles, and the constant internal debate of “Should I run… or should I sit on the couch and eat snacks?”
But what if exercise didn’t feel like work? What if it actually felt like… fun?
For me, the answer is simple: running with friends.
I love running on my own with music in my ears. There’s something peaceful about the rhythm of your feet hitting the pavement while your favorite songs keep you moving. It’s my thinking time, my stress relief, and sometimes my “solve-all-the-world’s-problems” hour.
But when you add a Runners Club into the mix, things get a whole lot more entertaining.
Running with a group means you never know what you’re going to get. There’s always that one person who keeps everyone laughing the entire run. You know the one—the storyteller, the joker, the one who somehow turns a five-mile run into a comedy show. And honestly, laughter might be the best workout booster there is.
Our group has a simple philosophy: if you’re going to run, you might as well enjoy it.
So we run together, we encourage each other, and sometimes we even add a little extra motivation along the route. Some running groups have water stations… ours might occasionally have a “hydration station” featuring things like a Back Forty beer or a little Fireball. Hydration is important, right?
Now, before anyone gets too concerned, these stops are mostly about the laughs. Because inevitably someone takes a little too long and the rest of the group starts asking:
“Should we go back and check on them?”
“Did they get lost?”
“Or are they just still at the ‘water’ station?”
Eventually someone gets sent on a rescue mission, and the whole thing turns into another story we’ll laugh about later.
That’s the real secret to exercising consistently—finding joy in it.
Whether it’s running, walking, dancing, biking, or chasing your dog around the yard, the best workout is the one that makes you want to come back tomorrow. Add good music, a few friends who don’t take themselves too seriously, and maybe a post-run beverage, and suddenly exercise becomes something you actually look forward to.
Because at the end of the day, it’s not about being the fastest runner or the strongest athlete.
It’s about moving your body, laughing with friends, and making memories along the miles.
And if there happens to be a little celebration afterwards… well, that just means you ran far enough to earn it.🏃🏻♀️🎶🔥🍻
