If you could be a character from a book or film, who would you be? Why?
If I Could Be a Character From a Book or Film… I’d Be Ariel (Obviously)
If someone asked me which character from a book or movie I would want to be, I wouldn’t even have to think about it for a second. No dramatic pause. No deep philosophical pondering. The answer is crystal clear: Ariel from The Little Mermaid.
First of all, let’s talk about location. Ariel literally lives in the ocean. The beach? Her backyard. The waves? Her daily commute. Meanwhile, the rest of us have to pack coolers, sunscreen, folding chairs, and fight traffic just to spend four hours there. Ariel just wakes up and—boom—she’s already in paradise.
Second, she’s a mermaid, which automatically puts her at the top of the cool-character list. Mermaids have the whole package: long flowing hair that somehow looks perfect even underwater, mysterious beauty, and that magical siren vibe that makes everyone stop and stare. Let’s be honest—if a mermaid swam by, every boat within a five-mile radius would be trying to figure out how to catch a glimpse.
And then there’s the treasure hunting. Ariel spends her days exploring shipwrecks at the bottom of the ocean, discovering mysterious artifacts and hidden treasures. While the rest of us are digging through junk drawers looking for batteries, she’s down there finding centuries-old treasures like it’s a normal Tuesday afternoon.
Also—she swims with sharks and whales. Sharks! I’ve always thought it would be incredible to swim with them (preferably the friendly kind that are not interested in me as a snack). Ariel probably just swims right alongside them like they’re neighbors.
And speaking of shipwrecks… if I were Ariel, you better believe one of my first adventures would be visiting the Titanic. I’ve always been fascinated by it. Imagine being able to actually swim down and see that historic ship resting on the ocean floor. No submarine, no special equipment—just swimming right up to one of the most famous shipwrecks in history and exploring it like an underwater museum.
But wait, there’s more.
Ariel also gets the best of both worlds because she can swim in the ocean AND walk on land. That’s basically the ultimate life upgrade. Want to explore the sea? Done. Want to stroll on the beach, eat dinner, and hang out with humans? Also done.
And let’s not overlook the obvious highlight: she falls in love with a prince. Not just any guy—an actual prince. So in summary, Ariel gets the ocean, the adventure, the treasure hunts, the sea creatures, the beautiful hair, and a royal love story.
Honestly, when you add it all up, Ariel pretty much has everything.
So if anyone ever invents a “Choose Your Fictional Character Life” application form, you can go ahead and pencil my name next to Ariel. I’ll be the one swimming with whales, exploring shipwrecks, visiting the Titanic, and flipping my hair dramatically underwater.
Because really… who wouldn’t want to be a mermaid?🧜🏿♀️
