Are you superstitious?
Am I Superstitious?
People sometimes ask me if I’m superstitious.
The honest answer?
Well… no. Not really.
But I do believe in karma.
Now before anyone jumps in and says, “That’s not the same thing,” I know that. Technically speaking, they’re completely different. But in my mind they kind of sit on the same shelf… somewhere between “don’t break a mirror” and “you probably shouldn’t be ugly to people.”
Because here’s what I truly believe:
How you treat people will come back to you. Probably threefold.
So if you’re out here being mean, shady, or doing folks wrong… you might want to get that meanness in check. I’m just saying.
Life has taught me that people eventually show their true colors. And sometimes those colors aren’t exactly the warm, friendly kind. I’ve had a few people do some pretty questionable things to me over the years. Now, do I sit around wishing bad things on them?
Well…
Not exactly.
Okay… maybe a tiny little bit.
But mostly I believe life has a funny way of sorting things out all by itself. I don’t have to do a thing. I can just sit back on my porch, sip my coffee in the morning—or a glass of wine in the evening—and watch it all unfold like a slow-moving episode of Consequences: The Reality Show.
Because bad behavior has a way of coming to light eventually. It might take a little time, but it always seems to find its way to the surface.
And when that moment happens—when karma finally pulls up a chair and says, “Remember that thing you did?”—I hope those folks take a long pause and think:
“Man… I probably shouldn’t have done those bad things.”
Now don’t get me wrong. I try to treat people right. I try to be kind. I try to give grace when I can.
But I also believe the universe keeps receipts.
So whether you call it karma, consequences, or just life evening the score, I’ve learned one simple rule:
If you don’t want it coming back around…
Don’t put it out there in the first place.
Now if you’ll excuse me, I’ll be over here minding my business… sipping my coffee—or maybe my wine—and letting karma handle the rest.
